Egypt has a lot of sand. A lot. Also a lot of heat. Also, if you’re visiting the pyramids, a lot of walking.
Enter: Egyptian Mint Limeade.
In a word, refreshing.
There is nothing quite like lemon/limeade on a warm day, and, at least in Oregon, it seems like spring is here! The mint is up in my garden, and I am so looking forward to having the sunshine here to stay!
lime juice
fresh mint
sugar
water
crushed ice
how to make the mint limeade…
The first step is to juice the limes and chop the mint leaves. You can cut the limes in wedges and squeeze them, but if you juice any amount of citrus, a juicer will do a better job. I like this one – it’s simple, easy to clean, and, key point here, has one part. A pet peeve of mine is fancy kitchen gadgets with a hundred complicated pieces. They’re supposed to save you time and effort, but you end up spending just as much time/effort cleaning them up and figuring out how to put them back together! #notinmykitchen
Okay, done ranting. Back to the limeade!
Stir everything but the ice together, and then let the mint infuse for a little while. You can choose how much mint flavor you want – the longer you let it steep, the stronger it will be.
When the limeade is done infusing, pour it through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher. Add the crushed ice, and give it another stir.
Garnish the glasses with mint sprigs and lime wedges.
